Pro-Ex's wrestling philosophy is centered around simplicity and hard work. Our approach to wrestling is based on physical and technical skills, drawing inspiration from the style of college wrestlers. We are confident that mastering the methods of college wrestling can significantly enhance your high school and college wrestling experience. Furthermore, our training combines Freestyle and Greco-Roman techniques with our collegiate style.

We offer a wrestling-specific conditioning program that includes plyometrics and core training, all of which are tailored to the needs of wrestlers. We believe that our program is designed to bring out the best in every wrestler and help them achieve success on their wrestling journey.

WHAT IS WRESTLING

Wrestling, a form of combat with a rich history dating back approximately 15,000 years, has undergone a significant transformation from its brutal origins to the highly technical sport we recognize today. Throughout this extensive period, wrestling has adapted and diversified, resulting in the development of various styles practiced globally.

In a detailed examination of wrestling styles, three main categories emerge: Freestyle, Greco-Roman, and Scholastic. Freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling are the international styles practiced across the world, with each having its unique set of rules and techniques. Scholastic wrestling, also known as Collegiate, is the traditional style predominantly practiced in U.S. high schools and colleges. Additionally, there are several lesser-known wrestling styles, such as Sambo, Grappling, Shoot, Beach, and Pankration, each with its distinct characteristics and techniques.

The significance of wrestling extends beyond the sport itself, as it has become a universally acknowledged core skill for success in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). The discipline, responsibility, and mental strength acquired through wrestling training are invaluable assets that contribute to the development of well-rounded adults and upstanding citizens.

Numerous famous individuals throughout history have engaged in wrestling, including U.S. presidents George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and Teddy Roosevelt, as well as U.S. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld and Retired General Norman Schwarzkopf. Moreover, several past and present MMA standouts, such as Dan Severn, Matt Hughes, Randy Couture, Jon Jones, Frankie Edgar, Cain Velasquez, Johnny Hendricks, Daniel Cormier, and Long Island's own Chris Weidman, have also honed their skills through wrestling.

The profound impact of wrestling on an individual's life is best encapsulated by the legendary coach and wrestler Dan Gable's statement, "Once you've wrestled, everything else in life is easy."
